Rahul Gandhi scripting a new political era of hope, development for people
NEW DELHI: August 26, 2010. Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi came, addressed and in many ways (most importantly, politically) further scripted a new era last week, for the entire spectrum of politics in UP.
His visit to Aligarh on Saturday (August 20), to address the farmers agitating against the Mayawati government on the issue of Yamuna Expressway project and the compensation package offered, has scored a major political triumph of ever-growing acceptance of Rahul Gandhi and thus, a solid road-map for the Congress in Uttar Pradesh (UP).
In fact, for the past few months, Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has been seen in this northern state as the politician who means real business, for overall development of one and all, with everyone’s rights protected.
In April, he held a rally in Ambedkar Nagar to commemorate the 119th birth anniversary of Dr B R Ambedkar and on the occasion, also launched the ‘Chetna Yatra’ to mark the 125 years of the Congress, in all 403 Assembly segments in the state for spearheading the Congress’s political view points.
He triumphed over all odds in the background of the state government not keen to permit him to hold a rally in Ambedkar Nagar, as being slated to be a stronghold of UP chief minister Mayawati but also the occasion being the birth anniversary of Dr B R Ambedkar, for politically vested designs by Mayawati.
Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi was not deterred with the state government’s diktats in regard to holding a rally here. He amply scored a point as the turnout in the rally being huge with about a lakh people in attendance.
Perhaps, the sheer number of rallyists was just not a figure but a definite indicative of the change in political sphere in the state, in due course of time, according to political analysts. And, Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi was right when he announced that the Congress party would change the politics in UP with the power of youth.
In his address to the huge gathering then, he said that India’s future remained with the poor and the backward. He added that the Congress was the only party concerned with the uplift of the poor and the Dalits.
“I see in this gathering the future of our country, being ushered in, by the youth. Times have come a long away from traditional designs of politics and now, everything revolves around growth and surging ahead the UP in all development sectors would be the only plank for real politics,” asserted Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi.
“We have already made a beginning in UP and we have also proved the viability of issues concerning the poor and the Dalits when we scored well in the last Lok Sabha polls,” he had said.
Taking a dig at those criticizing him for going to villages and meeting the poor people, Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi said that real strength of India was in the villages and with the poor and down-trodden folks. “Whatever can be done, we do from Delhi for the poor, the Dalits and the under-privileged people,” he said.
“We are committed for development in the country and ample employment opportunity for the youth and our party’s politics is based on these,” said Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi.
